Stones & Skirmishes: 28mm Balearic Slingers

Today, we're taking a little detour back to 28mm and diving into Antiquity: Balearic Slingers by Victrix. These miniatures are individually based, making them perfect for skirmish systems like SAGA and others.

Every now and then, I try to revisit and finish old projects, even if I don’t plan on expanding them further. I use these opportunities to keep training my "painting eye" and, more importantly, to clear some much-needed space. That’s exactly the case here: once finished, this unit will be heading to a new home as I'll be putting them up for sale shortly.

SAGA: Frankish warriors with bow

Some Frankish warriors with bow ready for a SAGA battle.

Miniatures are a mix of Artizan and Gripping Beast with added strings for the bows, where this was possible.

SAGA: 1st unit of warriors for my Irish force "Green Anger"

Time for a little variation before continuing with my Commonwealth project: Irish warriors for my SAGA force.

The main color of all the shields for my Irish will be a desaturated green, so that the impression of a cohesive force is created without looking too uniform.

In order to distinguish the units, the color of the shields will differ from unit to unit - in this case white.
Figures are from Footsore, shields as always with me Freehands.

Zeit für ein klein wenig Abwechslung, bevor es mit meinem Commonwealth-Projekt weiter geht: Irische Krieger für meine SAGA-Truppe.

Die Hauptfarbe aller Schilde meiner Iren wird in einem desaturierten Grün gehalten sein, so dass der Eindruck einer zusammengehörenden Truppe entsteht, ohne allzu uniform zu wirken.

Um die einzelnen Einheiten an sich unterscheiden zu können, wird sich die Farbe für die Schildmotive von Einheit zu Einheit unterscheiden - hier in dem Falle also Weiß.

SAGA: The last mohicans ... err 4 miniatures to complete my 2 units of Irish Kerns - Bowman!

With the last missing 4 miniatures, my two units of Irish Kerns are thus completed and ready for action!

This time, it´s 4 Kerns with bow, 2 of them (far left and far right) are Gripping Beast Dark Age Archers and the other ones (the both in the middle) are scratch built from Crusader Late Saxons and heads from GP´s Dark Age Warriors - with added bow strings to all of the bows.

Not just another addition to my Irish Kerns, but a fantastic sculpted one too!

Miniature is from Warlord Games Celts for their SPQR range but will blend in perfectly to my slingers - the pose is really spectacular, pointing the enemy and (hopefully) frightening him: You are the next! - or as we say in Germany: Du bist der Nächste!
