New Project - American Civil War

Our THS is moving to a new project - the American Civil War.
For getting started as fast as possible we decided to start with rather small units - 12 for infantry, 6 for cavalry and 1 gun model to represent 4 actual guns, or a half-battery.
As soon as we are able to field a larger amount of miniatures, we will merge them to larger units.

My first part is to paint 4 Union cavalry regiments (mounted and dismounted), a Brigade general and a half-battery.

I was fascinated since a long long time about the Battle of Gettysburg, especially the opening stages, when Brig. Gen. John Buford´s 1st Cavalry Division with a rather small force of cavalry was able to hold off a much larger force of Confederate infantry for a good amount of time until support from Brig. Gen. James S.  Wadsworth´s 1st Division of Maj. Gen. John F. Reynolds I. Army Corps arrived just in time.

Here are 2 maps stiched together to show the opening stages of this battle - both are from the excellent book "Gettysburg. The story of the battle with maps." from Stackpole Books - highly recommended!

Some of the stuff I ordered for my project:

First miniatures base coated - Perry Miniatures and Redoubt Enterprises:

And the first dismounted Union troopers as wip - this time I will paint the miniatures to a good wargames standard only, cause else it would take years ;-)
