15mm US Headquarters: Sicilian Bunker Command Post

After the blog has been dominated by battle reports recently, it was high time to tick another item off my to-do list.

I finished a 15mm HQ element for my US boys, and as you can easily tell, I stayed true to the Sicily/Italy setting.

Can (and will) be used as an objective marker, or as an HQ for games of Big Chain of Command or O-Group.
The HQ team has set up under cover of a captured Italian bunker, with the camo net serving more as sun protection than defense against the only very sporadic attacks of German or Italian aircraft.
While the military situation is being eagerly debated around the improvised map table and the latest rumors are exchanged near the entrance, others are taking a more relaxed approach: sandbags make for quite comfortable seating, and who knows how long it will be until the next breather.
The bunker is a 3D print that I covered with fieldstones, made from XPS foam matching various real-life examples still found across Sicily today and then textured using a sand mixture to achieve a realistic concrete look.
The fieldstone wall, sandbags, and camo net are scratch-built using Green Stuff, XPS foam, and a gauze bandage. The miniatures are from Battlefront, some of which I converted.

One of the many surviving bunkers in Sicily, which blend seamlessly into the landscape thanks to their fieldstone cladding.
