CoC/BA: 6th Australian Division - 3rd Squad

The third and tehrefore last squad of this Platoon of the 22nd NZ Battalion is ready to fight!
It again consists of miniatures from Warlord Games, Artizan and some modifications (mainly head swaps).

Next up are the Leader, an NCO, Boys AT Rifle Team and a 2" Mortar Team, making the squad complete, after them I will turn to the support options (MMG-Team, Observer-Team and more, later followed by artillery, anti-tank guns and tanks).

CoC/BA: 6th Australian Division- 2nd Squad

The 2nd Squad is ready for some action!

This time the miniatures are a mixture of Warlord Games and Artizan, also scratchbuilt some Artizan Australians into New Zealanders with heads from Warlord's British 8th Army Box, just to have as much variety of poses as possible.
But at least one New Zealander is allowed to show up with an Aussies hat 😉

As you can see from the not yet faded colours, most soldiers of the 2nd Squad are no veterans of the fightings in Greece and Crete but will nethertheless fight hard.
This squad had high losses in Greece, Crete and during the two retreats and therefore had to be almost completely replenished.
That´s why the colors of their uniforms are even more similar to the original at the time of issue.

Without further ado, here are the pictures:

Deutsche Version:

CoC/BA: 6th Australian Division - 1st Squad

Crete, already the sound of this name awakens the desire to travel and discover, to dive into the ancient world.
But it is also associated with one of the bloodiest battles of the 2nd World War, with the largest airborne operation to this date and the conquest of an island from the air.

In the midst of the heat of the battle, defending Maleme, the airfield and Hill 107 that dominates it, stands the 22nd New Zealand Battalion.
It fought bravely to the end and only mistakes in the higher leadership and failures in communication lead to a disastrous retreat, after which the German paratroopers finally have a base, over which supplies of men, weapons and ammunition can be replenished and thus finally made the conquest of Crete possible.

For my force of New Zealanders I decided to show them already in their desert uniform, because also in North Africa the 2nd New Zealand Division was involved in all important battles and I want them to use for this.

However, I kept the colours as they must have looked in the early stages in Africa - i.e. not yet faded into almost white. I think this is an acceptable compromise.

The composition of the Platoon is in line with Chain of Command, but Bolt Action is possible without any problems too of course.

Here is the first squad that consists of 2 teams and the Squad Leader at CoC: the Bren Gun Team (MG-Team) with 3 men and the Rifle Team with 6 men, that's 10 figures.

All figures are from Warlord - the Bren Gunner is a special figure that came with the BA army book "Duel in the Sun", all others are from the Platic Boxes "British 8th Army" and "Commonwealth Infantry".

Deutscher Originaltext:

Neuseeländische Division an allen wichtigen Schlachten beteiligt.

Terrain: Pimping a Sarissa building for North America - Part 1

I like to stage my painted figures for good photos and for me personally this also includes the right settings, i.e. terrain, buildings and details like this.

For my painted Possé of Chinese fighters for Western skirmishers, I still lacked suitable terrain, here above all a  building. But as luck would have it, I still had a kit from Sarissa made of MDF.

However, I´m not a too big fan of the typicall MDF look, so I had to pimp the kit accordingly.
This includes a new chimney made from foam, the planks of the walls were trimmed to look like rather old cracked wood and all roofs were rebuilt from individual shingles I made from Balsa wood.

A few more steps are done: The roofs of the veranda and the shed are covered now.

The roof is complete but not coloured yet:

SAGA: The last mohicans ... err 4 miniatures to complete my 2 units of Irish Kerns - Bowman!

With the last missing 4 miniatures, my two units of Irish Kerns are thus completed and ready for action!

This time, it´s 4 Kerns with bow, 2 of them (far left and far right) are Gripping Beast Dark Age Archers and the other ones (the both in the middle) are scratch built from Crusader Late Saxons and heads from GP´s Dark Age Warriors - with added bow strings to all of the bows.

SoPro 2020: Afrikakorps and 22nd New Zealand Battailon

In the main forum I´m posting at - https://www.tabletopwelt.de/index.php?/forum/260-das-sommerprojekt/ - every year there is a little contest called Sommerprojekt.
The goal is to paint at least 18 miniatures within 3 months, regardless of genre or epoch.

This year I will participate with the theme "Unter der Sonne Afrikas" /"Under the Sun of Africa") and paint a squad for my Afrikakorps and a squad for my New Zealanders from the 22nd Battailon in the first two months, in the 3rd month the squad leaders and the HQ support.

Here are the prepared figures:

Part 1 - 10 New Zealanders, 22nd Battailon:

Terrain: Natural plants: a try

What was common for me in model railroad construction, since there is only the requirement the conservation of the natural plants, for wargames the situation is differently.

The reason for this is that, in addition to conservation, it is also important that the plants also survive the harsher handling, without eventually dissolving into mere rubble.

After the plants had at least 2 weeks to dry, I will soak them in glycerin for 24 hours, let them dry again and then provide the necessary strength / elasticity with latex.

Here you can see the stalks of tomatoes - I think they look like cacti, right?

After the harvest:

After 2 weeks of drying time:

SAGA: Slingers again!

The last slingers for my Kerns, the last 4 missing miniatures to complete the two units of my Kerns will have a bow each - you know, for variety 😉

Miniatures are from Footsore again - nice sculpts, clear casts, simply a joy!

Infinity: In a Galaxy and Time not so far far away

I had been thinking about starting with Infinity together with Dirk for a while, but we had been able to slow down for a long time because we already have too many projects going on.

But as is the case with Wargamer-ADHS, at some point the resistance subsides and you follow the inner seductive voices 😎

And so over the next few weeks and months, there will also be posts on the topic of Infinity and because the background story has captivated me, I had to buy at least some books in addition to the starter box "Icestorm" added by some additional miniatures - the hobby budget for the next 6 months has been used up 👀
